Beck Attends State of the Commonwealth Address

Clinton County High School freshman Conlan Beck attended the State of the Commonwealth Address with the First Lady's Youth Leadership Council in Frankfort on February 8 & 9, 2017,  sponsored by the GEAR UP PALS program.  Conlan is pictured below, second from left.

"These council members serve as a voice for the voiceless, and it has been an honor to see what each of them have accomplished over the past year," said Kentucky's First Lady Glenna Bevin.  The members of the FLYLC meet to discuss issues affecting local youth and work together to formulate solutions.  As a result, Bills are being passed.  House Bill 180, which establishes that the Cabinet for Health and Family Services may approve placement for a child with those who are not related by birth or marriage, is one.  During the retreat, Conlan attended the rally for child advocacy and luncheon at the Governor's mansion.  Conlan was selected to sit at the table with Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton.  Lt. Governor Hampton concluded the luncheon by addressing the members of the FLYLC and stating, "Your stories are powerful and need to be shared not only with other kids in Kentucky, but also with adults.  The next generation of leaders are in this room today and I'm excited to see what you accomplish."
