South Kentucky RECC sponsored the Lexington Philharmonic’s “Music Tells a Story” program at Albany Elementary School on Friday, March 17, 2017. Students were treated to the story of “Peter and the Wolf” recited and set to music. In addition, students in the third and fourth grades enjoyed a “petting zoo” with the various instruments. This was an opportunity for students to handle the instruments and see how they work, in hopes this would spark an interest in them to join their school’s band when they can. Members of the Clinton County High School band assisted with the instrument exploration. Research has shown that students who participate in music education through the schools perform better, and it enhances skills that can be used in other areas.
