On March 30 & 31, 2017, students in the Gifted & Talented program from across the district were transported to Lexington, Kentucky to the Kentucky Horse Park. Students visited the world-renowned International Museum of the Horse. The International Museum of the Horse (IMH), a Smithsonian Affiliate, examines the role of horses throughout world history, from ancient times to today’s most popular sporting events. In addition to permanent and featured exhibits, the IMH exhibits a collection of equine art from artists around the world. Students also participated in the Draft Horse Demonstration. This demonstration covered a variety of information about the draft horses, including show preparation, harnessing, and breed history. Next students participated in the Breeds Barn Show. The show contained music, narration and interaction, in which humankind’s six thousand year partnership with the horse was brought to life. Students also took part in the Groom and Shine program.
