7th Grade Reading

Cyber School Day Assignments

Items needed to complete the assignments: paper, pencil, AR book, T.V.

Optional items: construction or copy paper, coloring utensils.

Day 1- Read your AR book for 30 minutes. On your own paper, record the page number you began on, and the page number you ended with. Also, write a brief description of the pages you read. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 2 – Watch your favorite television show or movie. On your own paper, draw and complete a plot diagram over the events in the show. Make sure to include the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and conclusion. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 3- Compare and contrast a cyber school day with a regular school day. You must include three similarities and three differences. Make sure you complete this in paragraph form (no Venn Diagrams). Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 4- Draw a book cover of your current AR book. You may use printer paper or construction paper if you have it available to you, but notebook paper will be fine. You may color it if you have crayons, markers, or coloring pencils at home, but using a regular pencil will work as well. Make sure to utilize the space of the paper (do not make the picture too small). The picture should not be a copy of the current cover, rather a new picture that represents the meaning of the book. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 5- Write an alternate ending to a recent AR book you have read, or a television show or movie you have watched. It must be a minimum of one page (hand written or typed). Be sure to include the name of the book, show, or movie you are writing about. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 6- Imagine your favorite AR book is being turned into a movie. Compile a list of the actors you would cast to play each character. You can use a book that has already been turned into a movie, but you cannot simply copy down all of the actors that play those characters (one or two will be fine if they seem like the perfect fit to you). You must come up with your own list!! You can use any actor you wish to play the parts, even if they have passed away, because this is make believe. Explain why you chose the actors you did for the specific parts. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 7- Summarize the events of your day. Be sure to complete this in paragraph form. Do not complete this as a list or with bulleted items. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 8- Draw a picture of the main character(s) from your current AR book. Use descriptions provided in your book to complete this assignment. You may use printer paper or construction paper if you have it available to you. You may color it if you have crayons, markers, or coloring pencils at home, but using a regular pencil will work as well. Make sure to utilize the space of the paper (do not make the picture too small). Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 9- Create a diary entry from the point of view of one of the characters in your current or favorite AR book. In the entry, describe an event that happened in the book. Make sure to include the thoughts and feelings of your character about the situation. It must be a minimum of one page. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.

Day 10- Choose a meaningful quote from the AR book you are reading.  Explain why the quote interests you, and what it means to the character in the book. This must be at least a half page. Place the completed assignment in the folder. Turn the folder in to your first period teacher upon returning to school to receive credit for the assignment.
