CCMS Receives Arts Inclusion Award

Posted On: Wednesday, January 5, 2022

This award will fund a program at Clinton County Middle School with teaching artist Octavia Sexton.  During the project, Mrs. Sexton will work with 5th grade students at CCMS in a storytelling residency.  She will use drama and include the history and elements of Early American and Appalachian storytelling.  She will discuss the elements of drama and the tools of a storyteller (voice, body, imagination) and lead students in participatory activities of drama. She will engage them in creating characters using their vocal inflections and body movements. Prior to the event the students will discuss the Appalachia region and culture and be engaged in listening to Appalachian folk music and folk tales.  This experience will allow students to make connections with drama, literature, and social studies.  CCMS is thankful for the Arts Inclusion award and is excited to work with Mrs. Sexton!
